Description
Smoke stopper with XT30 and XT60
The first time you plug a battery into a freshly built drone is the smoke test: if there is a short, the electronics burn. A smoke stopper is a resettable fuse that sits between battery and drone and cuts the current before anything burns.
This smoke stopper has XT30 and XT60 input and output, so it works for both micro drones and 5-inch quads, on 1S to 6S batteries. It trips at 1 A and holds up to 0.5 A, just enough to power up the electronics with no motors spinning.
Smoke stopper specifications
- Connectors: XT30 and XT60 in and out
- Voltage: 1S to 6S, 3 to 30 V
- Trip current: 1 A
- Hold current: 0.5 A
How to use it
Connect the battery to the input and the drone to the output, with props off. If everything powers up and the protection does not trip, remove the smoke stopper and plug the battery in directly. Remember it is a fuse: it helps a lot, but it does not protect against every fault.
Frequently asked questions about the smoke stopper
Can I fly with it fitted?
No, it trips at 1 A and motors in flight draw far more. Use it only for first power-up and for checks after a repair.
Does it reset itself?
Yes, it is a resettable fuse: once you unplug the battery and fix the fault, it works again.
