Betaflight 2026.6.1: What’s New in the Latest FPV Flight Controller Firmware

Betaflight, the most widely used flight controller firmware in FPV, has just shipped its 2026.6.1 update. It’s the year’s first major release, laying the groundwork for a built-in autopilot, adding support for more processors, a fully rebuilt app, and a handful of changes you’ll notice whether you fly freestyle or race. Here’s what’s new and what to check before you flash your flight controller.

Firmware

What is Betaflight 2026.6.1

Betaflight ships two major releases a year, in June and December. 2026.6 is this summer’s release, and the 2026.6.1 build is the stable patch you actually want to fly: it fixes the early bugs found right after the 2026.6 branch launched. If your flight controller is supported, this is the version you should be running right now.

What’s new

The changes that actually matter to FPV pilots

The headline feature is the new Flight Plan tab, which lays the first foundations for a built-in Betaflight autopilot. It’s simulation-only for now, but it’s the first step toward automated missions and routes running directly from the firmware, without relying on an external ArduPilot-style GPS setup.

GPS Rescue has been rebuilt from the ground up and is noticeably more precise at bringing your drone home if you lose your radio link. Optical flow position hold also lands in this release, letting the FC hold position using an optical flow camera instead of GPS alone — handy indoors or anywhere satellite coverage is weak.

You also get switchable battery profiles (swap a 4S LiPo for a 6S without touching the rest of your setup) and support for more processor platforms: ESP32, STM32H5/N6/C5, and the new dual-core STM32H757 MCUs.

App & hardware

A completely rebuilt app

The Betaflight Configurator has been fully rebuilt on Vue 3, leaving the old jQuery codebase behind. It’s faster, more stable, and there’s now a dedicated iOS app — something the community has been asking for for years.

If you fly with an iPhone or any WiFi-only device, there’s a new Betaflight Bridge adapter that lets you connect to your flight controller wirelessly. Native Android firmware flashing over USB is also here, plus a built-in Blackbox log viewer inside the app itself, no external tools required.

Should you update right now

You fly freestyle or just for fun: yes. 2026.6.1 already fixes the early bugs from the June 2026.6 launch, so it’s a good time to update without rushing but without worrying either.

You race competitively: update, but not the night before an important event. Do it during a calm window, run a short test flight, and keep your previous configuration saved in case you need to roll back.

Your flight controller is no longer on the supported target list: you won’t be able to update. It’s a good moment to consider a new FC to take advantage of the newer platforms (dual-core STM32H5/H7) that get the most out of these features.

Before flashing: back up your current configuration from the CLI tab (run diff all), confirm your target is still on Betaflight’s official supported list, and keep your PID profile handy in case you need to roll back.

If your current flight controller has lost official support, you can browse flight controllers compatible with the latest Betaflight releases in our flight controller section.
